IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James E.
Smith
October 22, 1934 – May 4, 2024
James E. Smith, aged 89, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2024, in Laguna Niguel. Known for his resilience, kindness, and ever-present smile, James leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion.
Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, James moved to Laguna Niguel when there were more orange trees than houses. Throughout his life, he faced numerous challenges yet remained steadfast in his dedication to his family, church, and community. His unwavering spirit and loyalty were a testament to his character and a source of inspiration to all who knew him.
James shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Maureen Smith, to whom he was married for 47 wonderful years. Together, they raised five children who, along with their spouses, brought them the joy of five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. James cherished his family above all and found immense pride and happiness in their achievements and lives.
A pillar of his community, James was deeply involved in his church, where his faith was a guiding force. He was known for his generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand and support those in need. James's resilience in the face of life's hardships and his unwavering commitment to his loved ones and community will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A celebration of James's life will be held at St. Timothy in Laguna Niguel on June 28 at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to [Operation Smile] ( https://operationsmile.org/ ) in honor of James's big smile that lit up a room.
