James Edmund Sandford's Obituary

James Edmund Sandford Beloved husband, brother, father and grandfather, James Edmund Sandford died suddenly on December 22, 2005 at the age of 73 at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills, California. Mr. Sandford was born December 7, 1932 in Trenton, New Jersey to the late Arthur Sandford and Anna Creeden Sandford. A decorated Marine Corps Veteran, he served his country in the Korean War and received the Bronze Star with Combat V and the Purple Heart.

Mr. Sandford was a graduate of Trenton High School and Allegheny College, and received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in English in 1958. Early in his career, he was employed as a writer and editor for McGraw-Hill, Chilton and Design News publishing companies. Since relocating his family to Southern California in 1978, Mr. Sandford owned and operated a public relations firm, specializing in photojournalism. In addition, he was a gifted published poet and a frequent featured reader on the Orange County poetry scene.

Mr. Sandford is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 49 years, Marie; son Michael and his wife Tina, of Oxford, California; son Peter of Trenton, New Jersey; and Arthur and his wife Norma of Fillmore, California; and daughter Mary of Laguna Hills, California in addition to six grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers, Robert of Florida and Richard of Delaware, and a sister, Cathleen, of Whiting, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his infant grandson Andrew James.

Services were held Monday, December 26, 2005 in Laguna Hills, California. As per Mr. Sandford’s wishes, his ashes will be scattered at sea off the coast of the Pacific. Family and friends are encouraged to send their words of comfort and prayer to his wife Marie.
