Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James M. Sparks, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Jim passed away peacefully in Lake Forest, CA on March 19, 2023, at the age of 84.

Jim was born in Covington, KY on February 21, 1939. He enlisted in the U.S. Army USAR INF and became a paratrooper as part of the Screaming Eagles 101st Airborne Division in 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1962. He served his country with distinction and honor. His bravery and dedication will always be remembered.

Jim was married to Sima Sparks for 27 years and was a loving husband and a devoted father to his daughter Kelly Ann and step-daughter Atoosa. He was a proud grandfather to Katelyn and Marcus. His family and close friends were the center of his world and cherished every moment he spent with them.

Jim was known for his infectious positivity and great sense of humor. He always had a joke or a funny story to share and brought joy to everyone he met. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Jim was an avid pilot. He loved to travel, read, watch boxing and enjoyed dining out to explore new and different restaurants.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Kelly Ann, his sister Martha and his brothers Henry and Eddie. He is survived by his wife Sima, step-daughter Atoosa, grandchildren Katelyn and Marcus, sister Bobbie, half-siblings Darlene, Debbie and Marvin, and many nieces and nephews.

 Jim will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his legacy will live on in the memories he leaves behind. He will always be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering positivity and love for his family.

A private celebration of Jim’s life will be held for family and close friends on April 5, 2023 at 10:00am at O’Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills, CA. Services will also be webcasted for those unable to attend in person.
