James M.
Holbert
September 7, 1945 – November 25, 2008
Born in Butte, Montana, spent his first few years in Mexico, due to his father’s business. The family moved to San Clemente in 1950, where he spent the rest of life. Both Jim and Gerry grew up in San Clemente, met in 1966, they fell in love and married the following year. Blessed with two children and 41 years of marriage. Jim’s parents loved San Clemente, his much loved mother was a Teacher at Ole Hanson Elementary School. And Jim worked with his father in the family insurance business that he purchased in 1985. Shortly thereafter he purchased the Roy Miller Agency and relocated to 139 Granada, where the agency remains today.
Jim loved the people and community of San Clemente. His sister Judy used to tease him about being too important and busy being ‘Mr. San Clemente’, but that of course was not true. He was a generous man giving freely of his time and friendship to all he knew and he knew just about everyone! He enjoyed meeting friends for breakfast, golfing, traveling, sunsets, sports, catching up with folks and having his glass of scotch at the end of the day. He loved taking part, and making a difference. He supported numerous local sports teams, and generously donated to local charity events and fundraisers. He worked tirelessly and contributed his expertise in many organizations and boards. The two closest to his heart were The Exchange Club of San Clemente and The San Clemente Chamber of Commerce. He was recognized for his service and dedication by the San Clemente Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year and the Lifetime Achievement Awards.
However, Jim’s greatest joy was by far his family; being at home surrounded by them was what mattered to him the most. Jim built a full life for himself, filled with family and countless friends who loved him and will miss his humor, and bighearted Spirit. As a tribute to Jim, think of him fondly, with good memories and a smile in your heart.
