Ivan “Michael” Thomas
October 3, 1945 – December 5, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ivan “Michael” Thomas on December 5, 2024, at the age of 79. Ivan passed away peacefully in Marana, Arizona, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on October 3, 1945, in Illinois, Ivan spent much of his life in Southern California before relocating to Marana seven years ago. He was a proud graduate of California State University, Long Beach, where he earned his bachelor’s degree, before continuing his education at the University of Southern California, where he earned his master’s degree.

Ivan had a distinguished career at Boeing, contributing to the aviation industry for many years. He also served honorably in the United States Air Force, a service that reflected his deep love for his country.

He was a longstanding member of the Masons, eventually achieving the status of Master Mason when he became a member of the Shriners.  He joined the Masons in March of 1995, and was dedicated to their mission of providing care to children in need, and greatly enjoyed playing in the Steel Drum Band with his fellow Shriners. Ivan’s generosity, kindness, and commitment to helping others defined much of his life.

Ivan’s passions extended beyond his professional life. He was an avid traveler, always seeking new experiences and adventures around the world. He had a special fondness for mermaids, a quirky interest that delighted those who knew him, and was a devoted fan of USC, always finding ways to show his Trojans pride.  Ivan never missed a Trojan’s football game without a good reason.

Ivan is survived by his beloved wife, Wilhelmina Thomas, his loyal dog, Cookie, who was a constant companion in his later years, his brother Richard, and many family members who loved him. He was loved and admired by his family, friends, and colleagues, and his loss will be deeply felt by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Ivan’s memory. A memorial service will be held at Miramar National Cemetery, February 21, 2025 at 9:30 AM.
