Obituary

Isabelle D. Dixon quietly passed away Feburary 3, 2005. She will be dearly missed by her family: Daughters; Diane Wood, Beverley Ehlen, Son; Harold Dixon Jr. her 7 grandchildren Edward, Lesley, Jennifer, Kirsten, Shannon, Michelle and Wesley: Her Great Grandchildren Eddie, Mia Jake and J.T. She also leaves behind and will be missed by her sister Ann

Those of us who knew and loved her will miss her dearly. Isabelle was always ready with a helping hand, a sweet smile, and a kind and generous spirit. A truly selfless person – always putting others first. Family was the most important thing in the world to her, and she did her work well, being the best mother and grandmother she could be. All the grandchildren loved to visit Grandma and Grandpa – they all had special ‘going to Grandma’s’ suitcases under their beds waiting to go to Grandma’s with anticipation of popcorn. She was such a part of their lives. Lucky for us who knew her and were fortunate enough to have been embraced by her llife. There are so many memories held close to our hearts – she was such a dear and special person. After our father had a massive stroke, she cared for him at home for 3 1/2 years. No small feat for a woman in her late seventies. A great gift to him, I always told her. This was so characteristic of her, always doing for others – a family member, or neighbor in need, you were fortunate if Isabelle was in your line of view. How can one say good bye to such a dear soul – one who shaped our lives and taught us well, shared so much of herself and passed along such a caring and loving legacy? Like I said, those of us who know and loved her will miss her dearly.

Facts about Isabelle to bring a smile to your face: did you know her favorite color was blue? That she loved spagehetti, overcooked vegetables coming from the the era where caned green beans could have botulism one could never be too careful, and to my father’s dying day tried to get him to eat broccoli? she loved and participated in the Variety Club and Itailian-American Club at Casta del Sol. She was a good writer and wrote her memoirs before she started to lose her memory smart cookie! Never became a ‘little ole’ lady’ always wearing stylish clothes and a modern hair style. While shopping at Harrod’s in London declared that everything was ‘too expensive’ and wouldn’t buy anthing at this famous department store. She would tuck her last $5 in your purse thinking you needed it more than her, and would bring home souvenirs from her trips for her family, but none for herself. She gladly cooked up dandelion greens gathered by Diane in the fields as a child, and would cook up squirrel and rabbit our father brought home – we had to take a tiny taste and didn’t find out until we were adults that she never ate any at all!
With sadness of the parting with joy for the memories, we bid a fond farewell to Isabelle.

Visitation/Vigil service for Isabelle will be held at O’Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills ~ Monday February 7, 2005 at 7:00PM. With Funeral Mass on Tuesday February 8, 2005 ~ 10:30 AM ~St Kilian Catholic Church and will be laid to rest with her husband Harold at Ascension Cemetery.

  1. Dearest family,
We send our sympathies to all of you. Isabelle was my “California Mom”. She took me into the family as if I was one of you and for that I will always be grateful. She was a truely exceptional lady and we will deeply miss her. She holds a very special place in my heart. All our love to everyone in the family that was blessed to have been related to Isabelle. Our prayers and thoughts go out to all of you. Love to you all. Steve and Karen Zoellner
