Hun Chhiv Ly
Hun Chhiv Ly of Irvine, CA, passed away at 9:05p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, CA. She was born on August 10, 1943in Battambang, Cambodia to Ban Hoc Ly and Tan Soat. Hun Chhiv Ly married Meas Saing Nang in 1966 and gave birth to son Nat Nang in 1976. She also adopted a son, Nar Nang, in November 1972.
Grateful for having shared her life are her 2 surviving sons, Nar Nang of Santa Ana, CA and Nat Nang of Temecula, CA; 9 siblings, Ly Chhiv Ly, By Chhiv Ho, Cin Le Lee, Sang Behrends, Tim Lee, Hong Asahino, Karla Rhodes, Hollie Rutter and Kim Vergel de Dios; 3 grandchildren, Jocelyn Olivia Nang, Sophia Lauren Nang and Gracie Rodriguez; as well as 12nieces and nephews, John Year, Mey Lee, Karen Year Nguyen, Malia Asahino, Collin Rutter, Marissa Vergel de Dios, Danika Vergel de Dios, Noah John Jequinto Year, Nathan Shawn Jequinto Year, Lauren Kenzie Lee, Raegan Makena Lee and Keiden Year Nguyen.
Hun was preceded in death by her husband, Meas Saing Nang in 1976. Also preceding her in death were her mother, Tan Soat in 1955, her father, Ban Hoc Ly in 2016, her brother, Tieng Bun Ly, in 1972 and her granddaughter Devina Nang in 2019.
Hun and her immediate family members were victims of the Pol Pot Communist regime in Cambodia. The family was able to escape this brutal government in 1979 and spent several years living in refugee camps in Thailand and Indonesia before immigrating to the United States in 1982. Hun became a U.S. Citizen in the 19 90s. She enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, flower arranging and watching over her grandchildren during their elementary school years.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, her celebration of life will consist of a graveside service only at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at El Toro Memorial Park, 25751 Trabuco Road, Lake Forest, CA 92630. The Cambodian Buddhist Temple of Long Beach, CA will officiate.
