~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Herb Carlson was born on July 20, 1947 to Arvid & Clara Carlson in Abbotsford, WI. Herb was the youngest of six children and enjoyed growing up on the family farm. Herb received a Master’s degree in Industrial Education at Stout State University in Wisconsin.
Herb made his choice to serve God at the age of 10. He honored and prioritized that choice throughout his life. He loved being at church conventions and meeting with God’s people and His servants.
Herb met the love of his life, Glenda, during their early teaching careers. They were married on August 11, 1969 in Kingsford, MI. It would have been their 53rd wedding anniversary this year. They welcomed the birth of their sons, Lane in 1981 and Landon in 1985. They moved to Fort Collins, CO in 1977, then on to Lancaster, CA in 1988, and finally to Orange County, CA in 1996.
Herb worked in education, real estate, and aviation, and he was a stranger to no one! He was known for his outgoing, positive, and friendly attitude, and always had a big smile and a warm handshake. Herb truly cared about others and always made everyone feel welcome. His passion for aviation was something that everyone will remember him by.
After retirement, he and Glenda enjoyed picnics at the beach, traveling in their motorhome, being with their children and grandchildren, and of course, flying!
Herb entered into rest on February 18, 2022. He leaves behind his wife, Glenda, of Dana Point, CA, sons Lane (Alesha) of San Diego, CA and Landon (Alyssa) of Kirkland, WA, and 5 grandchildren, Annika, Brynna, Sawyer, Talus, and Jaelynn. Also, his sister, Edith Jeske, of WI.
He is preceded in death by his parents Arvid & Clara Carlson and siblings Dave, MaryAnn, Ruth and Mae.
Herb will be missed by many, many friends for his kind heart for anyone he met, his passion for aviation and cars, a well-stocked candy supply, unlimited trinkets for any kid who crossed his path, and his enthusiasm for life. He loved helping people, and those of us who felt his care will miss him deeply.
  1. Uncle Herb was certainly a special man. We were so thankful for the help he gave our boys when they moved west. He was always cheerful and ready to include you in all his activities. We didn’t get to see you often, but love the memories of the special visits. Aunt Glenda and family, our hearts will be with you on Saturday and prayers and thoughts of love as you go on with life.
  2. I have great memories of being at Herb and Glenda’s home so much when I lived in Colorado. They even let me stay with them until I found a job and got settled. Later, my family enjoyed visiting them at the beach in the summers. He always had candy for the girls and took them flying in his plane. Cara and Amy thought Herb and Glenda were their aunt and uncle and that Lane and Landon were their cousins and were so sad when I had to correct that idea. But, glad for the family bond that goes beyond any human family ties. Glenda and family, you are in our prayers.
    Rodney Naef,
    Thoughts go to your family and your loss.
  4. Blue Skies all the way now Herb. We all miss you. Hope our paths will cross again. Love always Stephen, Aleta, Mary and Thomas.xxx
  5. Glenda and family
    We have been having you in our heart since we got shocking news of Herb’s passing so suddenly.
    We loved meeting together at Ross and Marilyn’s home.
    We also have good memories of Herb’s taking the grandkids flying out of Fallbrook Airpark.
    He will be missed by all who knew him!
    Love
    Verla and Duane Bergh
