Obituary

Helen Uribe Mercado, age 92 of Capistrano Beach, and Mission Viejo, California ended her life’s journey peacefully on Tuesday, July 25th surrounded by loved ones at home.

Helen was born in the town of San Juan Capistrano in 1924, to Adrian Uribe and Ramona Hernandez-Uribe. She was the fifth of twelve children and attended San Juan Mission School. She is survived by her siblings: Connie Figueroa, Joe Uribe, and Christina Garcia, and those who preceded her in death: Mary Soria, Juanita “Jenny” Mercado, John Uribe, Adrian Uribe Jr., Hope Gurley, Josie Llamas, Maudie Parkinson and Lucille Uribe.

She was married to Larry Ponce Mercado (deceased in 1990) for 68 years. She is survived by seven of her eight children: Eddie Velarde, Diane Gonzales, Gerri Chadesh, Norma Udero, Marcos Mercado, Sandra Domici, and Georgi Mercado. She was preceded in death by daughter, Rachel Morlett (Gonzalez-Mora).

She leaves an infinite legacy of 19 grandchildren: Caesar Varela, Jamie Chavez, Carmelita Gonzales, Gilbert Varela, Eric Mercado, David Mercado, Tammie Mercado, Dezri Avalos, Brandon Gonzales, Nichole Gonzales, Joey Mora, Jodi Domici, Joseph Domici (deceased), Tahnee Udero, Tomas Mercado, Richard Mercado, Kristina Abarca, Monica Bingham and Kacey Oster, and 32 great-children and 6 great-great-children, and multiple nieces and nephews.

The vigil will be on Thursday, August 3 at 8:00 pm at Mission Basilica in San Juan Capistrano. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00am on Friday, August 4, also at Mission Basilica. Burial will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Lake Forest.

The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support through this time. She lived a full life of both giving and receiving an abundance of love. She was blessed with loving care, family support and a strong faith in God.
