Obituary

Gwen Canfield
April 29, 1914 – September 14, 2011

Gwen Canfield, 97, longtime resident of Laguna Beach, California, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, September 14, 2011.

She was born on April 29, 1914, in Storm Lake, Iowa to John and Anna (Coyle) Toohey.

Gwen wed Dell A. Canfield on October 29, 1934, and they were happily married for 66 years before he died in February of 2001.

She is the beloved mother of four children: Barbara Hillman, Don Canfield, Margie Canfield Willis, and Sue Cable (Wade). She has 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Gwen was famous for her generosity, hospitality, fun loving spirit, and apple pies! She was a true ‘party girl’ never wanting to miss out on any fun, and her mind was razor sharp to the end.

She will be sorely missed, but leaves an incredible legacy that will live on in all of us.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Newport Beach.

What a beautiful and inspiring lady Miss Gwendolyn was! She is a wonderful example of exactly the kind of life that God intends for us all to lead – a loyal wife and devoted mother, a matriarch for her entire family, a love of life that inspired all those around her… no wonder she was so, so loved and surrounded by so many even through her last days. A little piece of her will live on through each of you! You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Big hugs to all and an extra big hug for Stacy. love from the gattis family
