Obituary
Gwen Canfield
April 29, 1914 – September 14, 2011
Gwen Canfield, 97, longtime resident of Laguna Beach, California, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, September 14, 2011.
She was born on April 29, 1914, in Storm Lake, Iowa to John and Anna (Coyle) Toohey.
Gwen wed Dell A. Canfield on October 29, 1934, and they were happily married for 66 years before he died in February of 2001.
She is the beloved mother of four children: Barbara Hillman, Don Canfield, Margie Canfield Willis, and Sue Cable (Wade). She has 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Gwen was famous for her generosity, hospitality, fun loving spirit, and apple pies! She was a true ‘party girl’ never wanting to miss out on any fun, and her mind was razor sharp to the end.
She will be sorely missed, but leaves an incredible legacy that will live on in all of us.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Newport Beach.

Dear Stacy & Family:
How lucky you are to have been blessed with such a wonderful mom, grandma and great grandma in your life for so long. It’s so touching to see all of the pictures of your Grandma surrounded by her loving family and all of her unbelievable baked creations. I know she will be missed. Our hearts are with you in your time of sorrow. Love, Jenny and Billy

Dear Barb & Family,
I count my lucky stars that I was able to experience the “glory of Gwen”. It was 5 short years ago, & I knew what everybody was talking about. Gwen was a “kick”. She never missed a beat & there was always a sparkle in her eyes. My heartfelt condolances at your loss. Her memory will be cherished.
Love, Karen Gilbert
