Obituary
Gusta Cornelia Frieser-Welcker, better known as ‘Tante Corrie’ or ‘Oma,’ passed away peacefully on April 12, 2009, with her family by her side.
She was born in Kudus, Indonesia on June 3, 1921. On March 21, 1947 she married Edward Gilles Welcker. After living in Indonesia, Holland and San Francisco, the family settled in Covina, California in 1962. In 2007 Mom and Dad moved to a retirement community in Laguna Hills, California. They recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in March, 2009.
Mom’s hobbies included gardening, sewing, cooking and spending time with friends and family. She loved flowers. Mom loved to laugh and make people laugh. Even during her most difficult last days she never lost her sense of humor. There was always time for conversation, laughter and good food.
She is survived by her devoted husband; 5 children, Yvonne Bell, Sonja Turner, Erneman Welcker, Lia Taubert and Jan Willem Welcker; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Her love for all of us was unconditional. Her wish is for our family to always be together, for her friends to remember her, and for everyone to always laugh.
Her presence may be gone but her spirit will always live in our hearts.
Please join us in the celebration of her life on April 25, 2009 at 9 AM at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 24252 El Toro Rd., Laguna Woods followed by burial at Ascension Cemetery, 24754 Trabuco Rd., Lake Forest. There will be a reception immediately after the services at the home of Jim & Yvonne Bell.
The family requests that flowers for Gusta’s services be sent to O’Connor Mortuary, Laguna Hills, no later than 5 PM on Friday, April 24.

Trust in the Lord w/all your heart & lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him & he will make your paths straight. Oma has always been a believer & she walked by faith not by sight. It is God that has truly blessed me w/the gift of my wonderful family & most importantly my oma & opa. I know that she is in good hands now smiling down & watching over us. Oma you will always be my pride and joy & I thank you for all the years of happiness and memories. You will always be forever remembered and in my heart & soul. Ik houd van u. :

Cora, you are a one of a kind lady. Along with your family, you shared with me the greatest gift of my life – your daughter. You’ve been a mother, and my friend, and I will love and remember you always.

I can still hear Auntie Corrie laughing, singing and yelling at us kids to stop running around in and out of the house, I can still smell the many meals she cooked on Kingside Drive. I can still remember the way she made William laugh while she sang to him almost 20 years ago. The way she would joke around with Joe and make us all laugh. We are so blessed we were able to see Auntie Corrie just a few months ago. We have alot of great memories and she will always be in our hearts.

This will be a Special Day for you. In my quiet moments, I wrote you this poem. Hope you like it…
Heavens Gate
We are only here for a short time
To leave a mark for all to see
From the time we are born
Till the time we leave
Some show their love by Words
Some share with special Gifts
As the chapters are written each day
We remember them for what they left
My Tante Corry was a special one
For she gave her love through Food
It was her Gift to this World
That she enjoyed to share
My memories go back to her home
From the moment you entered it
It was full of different spices
And you know she had prepared some special dishes
The moment I saw her, she smiled with delight
The crowd around her enjoyed her kitchen too
That’s where most sat as she finished the last details
Of the Ricetable she prepared with Love
But the lasting memory she will leave with me
Is her laughter, her giggle, her sense of humor
You feel it the moment you see her
And want more and more as the night goes on
Yes, it’s her smile I will always remember
She has left deep within my heart
The Special Love for me and my Family
I will keep with me deep within
I will miss you My Tante
But we will be together again
I look forward to seeing you at Heaven’s Gate
And somehow I will know you
It’s your Laugh and your Smile I will see
You will see me coming from Afar
“Janie”, you will call
And I will see you waving with a big Smile
So I will end this letter as we always did before
“Love you Sweetheart”, you would say
And as I give you hugs and kisses, I would say…
“Love You too, Tante. Talk to you soon again”.
