Obituary

Gusta Cornelia Frieser-Welcker, better known as ‘Tante Corrie’ or ‘Oma,’ passed away peacefully on April 12, 2009, with her family by her side.

She was born in Kudus, Indonesia on June 3, 1921.  On March 21, 1947 she married Edward Gilles Welcker.  After living in Indonesia, Holland and San Francisco, the family settled in Covina, California in 1962.  In 2007 Mom and Dad moved to a retirement community in Laguna Hills, California. They recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in March, 2009.

Mom’s hobbies included gardening, sewing, cooking and spending time with friends and family. She loved flowers.  Mom loved to laugh and make people laugh.  Even during her most difficult last days she never lost her sense of humor.  There was always time for conversation, laughter and good food.

She is survived by her devoted husband; 5 children, Yvonne Bell, Sonja Turner, Erneman Welcker, Lia Taubert and Jan Willem Welcker; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.  Her love for all of us was unconditional.  Her wish is for our family to always be together, for her friends to remember her, and for everyone to always laugh.

Her presence may be gone but her spirit will always live in our hearts.

Please join us in the celebration of her life on April 25, 2009 at 9 AM at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 24252 El Toro Rd., Laguna Woods followed by burial at Ascension Cemetery, 24754 Trabuco Rd., Lake Forest.  There will be a reception immediately after the services at the home of Jim & Yvonne Bell.

The family requests that flowers for Gusta’s services be sent to O’Connor Mortuary, Laguna Hills, no later than 5 PM on Friday, April 24.

    it knows no boundaries,
    His love reaches us wherever
    we are, at any time,
to make our hearts rejoice again.

    Thinking of your family during
    this difficult time.

  3. Oma and Ed did a great job in taking care of not only their own kids but also with mine. I owe her, and Ed, a debt I can never repay. Thank you Cory.

  5. To my Tante Corry. You will truly be missed. My last visit to California, you still thank us for a set of pot and pans we gave you for a birthday present over 25 years ago. In your words, “They were the best pans I ever cooked with”. It gave me a warm feeling to know that everytime you cooked with them, you remembered us. Although we lived in different states throughout our marriage, you were always in our hearts. Steve and our Girls and especially me will miss you so. As you leave this world, you will go to a place with much happiness. Another Angel is arriving God. Please take care of her till we see you again. With all our love, Jane.
