Obituary

Gusta Cornelia Frieser-Welcker, better known as ‘Tante Corrie’ or ‘Oma,’ passed away peacefully on April 12, 2009, with her family by her side.

She was born in Kudus, Indonesia on June 3, 1921.  On March 21, 1947 she married Edward Gilles Welcker.  After living in Indonesia, Holland and San Francisco, the family settled in Covina, California in 1962.  In 2007 Mom and Dad moved to a retirement community in Laguna Hills, California. They recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in March, 2009.

Mom’s hobbies included gardening, sewing, cooking and spending time with friends and family. She loved flowers.  Mom loved to laugh and make people laugh.  Even during her most difficult last days she never lost her sense of humor.  There was always time for conversation, laughter and good food.

She is survived by her devoted husband; 5 children, Yvonne Bell, Sonja Turner, Erneman Welcker, Lia Taubert and Jan Willem Welcker; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.  Her love for all of us was unconditional.  Her wish is for our family to always be together, for her friends to remember her, and for everyone to always laugh.

Her presence may be gone but her spirit will always live in our hearts.

Please join us in the celebration of her life on April 25, 2009 at 9 AM at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 24252 El Toro Rd., Laguna Woods followed by burial at Ascension Cemetery, 24754 Trabuco Rd., Lake Forest.  There will be a reception immediately after the services at the home of Jim & Yvonne Bell.

The family requests that flowers for Gusta’s services be sent to O’Connor Mortuary, Laguna Hills, no later than 5 PM on Friday, April 24.

  1. Lieve tante Cor,

    Margie

Making sourdough bread on this snowy day…I was thinking about some memories from the past. The Welckers’ came to mind. ..I grew up with this family.Cora had a gift of making you feel so special and unique…Her cooking
WOW was wonderful. She would say,”Stanna I’m making lumpia..”And we would chow down and she would bring the sambal?(hot sauce?)So many
precious memories and times she helped me when I would get in trouble for something…Always available, never judging, such a SWEETHEART.I moved out of California over 30 years ago..But I remember so fondly that I could
run up the street to Kingside Dr and be with a second family that warmly
welcomed me…Thank you and love you always Dear Cora…Stanna
