Gowri Jagannath, of Mission Viejo CA, left her mortal body to be with God on July 13, 2024 at the age of 75 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her mother and father Rajalakshmi and Narasimhan Mahadevan, and her brother Balu. Gowri is survived by her beloved soulmate and husband of 40 years, Kuthur "Jaggu" Jagannath, her son Prithvi Jagannath and daughter-in-law Natalie Jagannath, her two darling grandchildren Chetan and Maya, her sisters Paddu and Lalli, her sisters-in-law Sundari, Prabha, Rama, Gita, Uma, and Latha, numerous nephews and nieces, and many close friends she considered to be family.
Gowri was born on September 2, 1948 in Mysore, India. She graduated from National College, Bangalore India in 1969 with a BSC in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. She was fluent in English, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and German, the latter of which enabled her to work for the offices of the Goethe Institute in India. Gowri subsequently moved to Toronto, Canada after her marriage before immigrating with her family to the United States in 1989, where she lived in Southern California and Washington State. Gowri had an active professional life and worked as a project coordinator for several large corporations.
Gowri's favorite hobbies were cooking, gardening, sewing, knitting, crafting jewelry, enjoying classical Indian and European music, and traveling with Jaggu to numerous destinations throughout India, Europe, East Asia, Africa, South America, and the Middle East. She also loved spending time with her immediate and extended family, especially her grandchildren. Gowri was a cheerful, kind, and compassionate soul with a wry sense of humor who combined both scientific and spiritual outlooks and embraced the perspective of "you can't take it with you."
Memorial services will be held at O'Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills, CA at 2PM PST on Wednesday, July 17. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Human Options at https://humanoptions.org/donate/
