Obituary

Gloria Dawn Dandoy passed away peacefully at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, on November 14, 2008 in Laguna Hills, CA at the age of 80.

Gloria was born March 1, 1928 in South Gate, California to Lionel and Louise Ball. A California native, Gloria was raised in the greater Los Angeles area. Throughout her many years in Southern California, she witnessed many changes, from the Great Depression, to World War II, to expansive Orange groves, to the technological advances of the present. In earlier days, she would take the Red Line to Los Angeles to work, before becoming a mother and homemaker to six children.

She loved ballroom dancing, reading, going to plays and performances, and going out to eat with her family the more dessert, the better! Despite frail health, she enjoyed an outing to Medieval Times and attended an Angels’ baseball game with her family. But most of all, Gloria took the greatest pride in the accomplishments, great and small, of her family and friends. Although she may not have traveled extensively by plane, she certainly traveled farther than most in her imagination, kindled by her love of reading. Her loved ones cannot think of her without imagining the pleased smile she had when finishing a particularly great story, a love passed on to her children and grandchildren.

Gloria is many things to many people: a friend, daughter, sister, mother, grandmama, great-grandmama, and great-great-grandmama. Her compassionate, patient, and gentle nature always shined, and her loving attitude for everyone attracted many friends throughout her lifetime. Gloria was always ready to share a good time with both family and friends, and she had a selfless spirit that always put her loved ones’ needs before her own. A ready smile greeted everyone who encountered her, and a warm hug quickly followed.

The family matriarch, Gloria Dandoy served as a cornerstone for the special bond her loved ones continue to share. She is loved dearly by all that knew her, and she lives on in the hearts of her family and friends. Gloria Dawn Dandoy was preceded in death by her mother Louise, father Lionel, step-father James, husband Norman, and son Michael. She is survived by her sister Marcia Neasel; sons Craig, Douglas, and Scott Doughty; daughters Linda Laituri and Julie Dandoy, sixteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
