Obituary

Gladys Julia Lavoie

A very gracious, loving, caring woman with a big heart. Touched so many lives with her love and caring ways. She was one to always remember birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, births and many more occasions. You were guaranteed that you would receive a card, gift or special treat for your special day.

Gladys’ life began in a very small town called Tuckahoe in New Jersey. She worked at a telephone company in this small town of Cape May County.

Gladys was also known to have many military pen pals whom she wrote to, which brings us to how she met the love of her life and soul mate, Daniel. A cousin of Gladys actually was the one who had a hand with the start of this amazing relationship and your true classic fairytale love story. A cousin wrote a letter to her, but signed it Daniel Lavoie. The rest is history for an amazing 68 years.

She also not only raised 8 children, but she was a licensed day care provider and raised and loved many other children.

She went on to get her degree in child development/nursery school teaching. But her final love and accomplishment was working at Golden West College as a switchboard.PBX operator where she touched many many more lives. She retired after 35 years at the age of 85.

During her last couple years she had also developed a very close bond, love and friendship with a very special person and nurse who was more of a son to her, David Mendoza. It was a relationship that grew from sight, touch and emotions because a stroke left her without words.

Gladys is predeceased by her husband, Daniel (G.J.) Lavoie; son Gary Lavoie; and sister Dolores Young.

Gladys Julia Lavoie is survived by her children, Daniel Joseph Lavoie, Julie Ann (David) Zoch, Albert Danny (Patricia) Lavoie, Charles Leslie (Elizabeth) Lavoie, Maria De Luna, Donna Jeanne (Larry Alexander) Hodges, Gregory Stephen (Diane) Lavoie and Kevin Gene (Michelle) Lavoie; grandchildren, Trevor Lavoie, Russell Lavoie, Chuck Lavoie, Jr., Candace Lavoie, Gary Lavoie, Adam Lavoie, Bobby Hodges, Jr., Danny Hodges, Evan Lavoie, Brandon Lavoie, Shelby Koska, Shana Jordan, Kevin Lavoie, Steven Lavoie, Kenny Lavoie, Danielle Teel, Brandy Brenner, Madison Gonzalez, Samantha Lavoie, Zachary Lavoie, Allyssa Lavoie and Jaclynn Lavoie; 22 great-grandchildren; and close friend/son, David Mendoza.

How many Saturday Nights did we all spend together? Probably Hundreds or Thousands? I remember the exact day when I first met you, like over 20 years ago! I still remember the shock of finally meeting your Sister Julie for the first time (at her wedding!) when we looked at each other (like looking into a mirror!) Good Times! We have had so many fun times together through the years… God, How I miss your dear Mom’s laugh. She had the Best sense of humor! Your sweet Dad too…Your Mom and Dad made such a Sweet Couple…They were so great together! Now they are together again laughing, loving each other, and watching over you and the Family. Your Mom was so lucky to have two such wonderful daughters that cared for her all these years in her time of need. You both shall be blessed beyond your wildest dreams for all the wonderful things you two have done for your Mom and Dad. Most of all, I Thank you for letting me be a part of your Family all these years.
