Obituary

Gerre Arnold

Gerre Arnold, our; beautiful, quick-witted, compassionate, funny, smart, strong, vivacious, Jesus-loving, Andrea Bocelli adoring, latte swirling mother of two, friend, to all and oldest daughter of 10,. departed this world in the early morning hours of January 3rd, 2021. She had a smile that was so endearing you just knew that she had nothing but kindness, joy and benevolence in her heart; albeit, with a bit of Irish shenanigans laced through her soul, all a part of her Irish/Australian ancestry.

Gerre, was born in Ballarat Australia on June 20th, 1948 the 3rd of 10 children. Our much beloved, and equally impish mother, Sheila Reider, use to say, “I should have quit after Gerre”. She was joking, (we think and hope), however you could never tell with our mom, because she too, had that “Gerre” twinkle in her eye.

Gerre’s legacy is one that we should all aspire to leave behind. Her devotion not only to the Lord but also to her fellow man went beyond her passion and straight into action. She worked hard, hand in hand with Capo Beach Calvary to ignite and incite the independence of all the participants of Glad Ministries for the Disabled. She and other volunteers would create adventures, programs and special outings for those with impairments of body or mind helping them realize their fulfillments of living a fun and capable life beyond their limitations. But the ministry that brought her the most joy and ultimately the love of her life, was “Grace International/Friends of Los Ninos.” It was through her work in this ministry that she first laid eyes on the person that would bring her the most fulfillment in life, Lexi Arnold-Meyer.

This small bundle of sunshine that emanated nothing but happiness and heart from her pintsized, Cerebral Palsy distressed body, gave Gerre eve more determination to share her unlimited reservoir of love, life, and resolve, to every orphan that she could reach, teach, hug and support through the hardships of their surroundings. In other words, Gerre was about as close to a living saint that one could be.

Gerre is survived by so many that loved and adored her. Her son Michael Arnold (Lena), daughter Lexi (Grant) Meyer, Brothers Kevin (Andie) Reider , Bob (Kathy) Reider, Rich Reider and George Reider. Her sisters, Colleen Rosen, Christine Reider-Grows, Maureen (Mark) O’Dea and Eileen Reider. She was preceded in death by our mother, Sheila Reider and our sister, Kathy Reider. Her lifelong and most beloved friends Harley & Cecil Hammon; Dec Forsythe, Mikel Persky, and Susan Dominguez, Many nieces, nephews, American and Australian cousins and countless friends she met in her years of service through ministry.

Our family would like to extend a special thank you the staff at Mission Hospital for their years of bringing Gerre through multiple surgeries, especially Dr. Bahman Badie, Dr. Robert Jackson, Dr. Mark Kobayashi and Dr. Bruce Tammelin.

At this time we have not made any definitive Service Plans for Gerre, but we are hoping to have a Celebration of Her Life sometime in June, COVID permitting. In the meantime, if you would like to make a donation on Gerre’s behalf to the organization of your choice, please feel free to do so. Love and Blessings to you all; Psalm 147:3

Gerre was all that and more.! I have very fond memories during our several yrs together with the kids at Casa.. She was a leader with no fear.! Gerre ran the good race and fought the good fight. I’m sure when she entered eternity , she heard the words , ” Well done , good and faithful servant.”. Gerre was a little angel with a huge heart.!
She is loved by many and will be greatly missed ,…..until that day when we meet again..

  2. God Bless you Gerre!

  3. Such a beautiful soul inside a beautiful human. I will always cherish the memories I have of sweet Aunt Gerré and hope to continue her light of loving others the way Jesus calls us to love.
