Celebration of Life to follow at the family home in Dana Point.
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gerald “Jerry” Wermers age 92 of Dana Point CA. Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was born September 5th, 1934 to Leo and Annabel Wermers in South Dakota. After high school he joined the Navy and was lucky enough to be stationed at Miramar in San Diego CA.
He married Mary Pat Farenbaugh in 1961 and being good Catholics, they were blessed with 4 children in 5 years. Jerry was a devoted family man and led with quiet strength. They raised their family in Oceanside CA and moved to Dana Point in 1975.
He was very proud to have served in the Navy and years later was invited to participate in a National Honor Flight. He and his son Jeff, along with several other retired soldiers were escorted to many historical monuments in and around Washington DC. This was one of his favorite trips and he loved talking about it with anyone who would listen.
Together with Pat they spent several years of their retirement traveling the United States in their Dolphin motorhome. They settled down in Bullhead City Arizona for a while where they enjoyed the casinos and most especially Sunday brunch with friends.
At the insistence of their kids, they moved back to Dana Point in 2023 where he lived the rest of his life enjoying family, friends and all the fun that life had to offer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Pat Wermers along with 4 children: Jeff Wermers (Nancy) Lori Shelton (Greg) Denise Zimmerman, Kristy Warrington (Todd) and 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and 2 more on the way.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but the memories of a life well lived will bring us comfort.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Edward Catholic Church on Friday November 20th, 10:00am, followed by a celebration of life at the family home in Dana Point.
