Obituary

Gary Ralph Greer, our beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 29, 2013.

Gary was born on December 3, 1946 to James and Margery Candler Greer in Long Beach, CA. He was the oldest of four children. He settled in Irvine in 1983.

He attended South High in Redondo Beach, CA, attended college for a brief time and then went right to work. He had a long and varied career. Gary worked for the Secret Service as a bodyguard for a vice president for a short time and at a dry cleaner’s. After this service, he worked for 18 years at McDonald Douglas (later changed to Boeing) and while there helped to develop a new aerodynamic shape for high speed aircraft and the escape pod for commercial airplanes. Gary went on to work for Northrop Grumman for 30 years while also being a realtor, vacuum salesman and even working for the FBI for a short time.

A mutual friend gave Gary Eun Sun’s phone number in Korea, so he called her in July 1997 and she hung up on him. He called again the next day and after spending over $1,200 a month on phone bills, in October he convinced Eun Sun to come to America. They were married on December 10, 1997. They had 2 daughters, Lesilie and Cortney.

Gary had a few health challenges and close calls over the years. He survived a knife attack in 1993, had surgery to remove a brain tumor in Feb 1997, was diagnosed with Addison’s Disease in December 2005 and crashed his car into a tree on December 28, 2012.

Gary and Eun Sun were sealed in the Latter-Day Saint temple in August of 2006. Gary was a sensitive man, tender of heart, with a great sense of humor.

Gary is survived by his wife, Eun Sun; 2 daughters Lesilie and Cortney; his father James William Greer; and siblings Lori Greer and David Greer. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margery Candler Greer and brother, Donald Greer, and his daughter Tammy.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013 at 10:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 23 Lake Road, Irvine, CA, with a viewing at 9:00 am. Interment will be at the Santa Ana Cemetery.
