June 8, 1948 – December 8, 2022
Gail Ivy Comstock Oakley passed away peacefully on December 8 th , 2022 after a long battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her husband, family, and caring staff at the Providence Mission Hospital in Orange County, California.
She was born on June 8 th , 1948 in Herkimer, New York, daughter of the late Bart and Joan Comstock. She attended school in Herkimer, NY and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She then moved to California to work as a buyer for a large department store and later moved into facilities management for multiple companies.
She met her husband, Richard Oakley, in 1994, and they recently celebrated their 25 th wedding anniversary. Together they loved to ski, travel and were involved in the Trabuco Presbyterian Church.
Gail stayed active through long-distance walking, completing several half-marathons, loved to cook and was always trying new recipes.
Gail is survived lovingly remembered by her husband Richard Oakley of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, step-daughter Brooke Oakley Cherven (Chris) of Decatur, GA and two young grandchildren, Keegan James and Emily Oakley Cherven; her sister Lynn Comstock Barnhart (Chris) of Seattle, WA and four nieces and nephews Shauna Lockhart (Cody), of Jackson, Wyoming, Peter Walchenbach (Stephanie), Trevor Walchenbach, and Ava Barnhart of Seattle, WA, one great-niece, Amelia and two great-nephews, Callahan and Bode.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to the Leonard Cancer Institute at Providence Mission Hospital Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
