Obituary

Gabriela Maan Vasquez

Gabriela Maan Vasquez was born in Australia, on a crisp Monday morning, August 1, 1994.  She was the only daughter of Malou Valdes and Hernan Vasquez.  Gabby is her nickname, but her close friends and family calls her simply as “Maan”.    As a true Leo, she was vivacious, theatrical, and passionate.

At age 6 she started playing piano and tennis and started competing at an early age of 10.   Her passion and love for tennis continued through both her high school and college years.  She was rated #1 Tennis Player at Mission Viejo High School.   This rank afforded her a scholarship to attend University of Redlands.  She received a Bachelor of Arts in Communicative Disorder and Spanish in 2016.  After her undergrad studies, she joined AmeriCorps and traveled to the state of Washington for her internship. From there, she crossed the Pacific Ocean to attend Graduate School, at University of Hawaii, where she graduated with a Master of Science Degree, in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2019.

Her love for family and home brought her back to California where she began her clinical fellowship at Maxum Therapy Pediatric Clinic.  She was a true event planner, as she planned special occasions like birthdays, graduations, and simple family celebrations.  Hallmark has nothing in comparison with her creativity.  She made personalized handmade cards to show how special you are in her eyes.  She hand delivered them to you with her radiant smile.  She picked up gardening recently and her green thumb made the little succulent’s plant incredibly happy. Her magnetic personality allowed her to have special connections with each family members and close friends.

A bright young life cut short, but in our hearts you will always remain.  We love you forever! Until we meet again.

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

  4. Dear Malou and Hernan,
I was in awe and deep sorrow when I heard about your loss of your precious Gabby. Even we don’t talk and see each other very much after the SOS retreat, I know in my heart that I feel very close to you because we had some good memory of our friendship with our God. May you find comfort in everything that reminds you the Lord is always there for us when we need him. Hope to bond with you again when time permits. May the precious soul of sweet Gabby rest in peace.
    You SOS sister,
    Maline
