Fred Eugene Sheldon passed away March 26, 2019 at the age of 96. He died peacefully in his home in San Juan Capistrano with his devoted wife, Kathleen McDougall Sheldon, at his side. Fred and Kathleen were married for 56 wonderful years.

Fred is survived by his wife, Kathleen, 9 children, 29 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren who all loved him dearly. He showed unique interest in each of his children and grandchildren, and blessed them with his cheerful hope and optimism. He always whistled while he worked, and he won many awards for his homemade lemon merengue pie.

Fred loved his country and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He also loved sports and played on a championship football team at Garfield High School and then played football at Pasadena City College until he enlisted.

After the war, Fred graduated from Whittier College, earned his administrative credential at USC and became a high school coach, teacher, and administrator at Montebello High School. "Mr. Sheldon" was well loved by athletes, students, and co-workers. He retired from Montebello Unified School District after more than 45 years of service.

Fred had a deep faith in God, prayed often, faithfully attended church, and showed love and kindness toward everyone. After retirement, he served full-time missions for his church including a year of humanitarian service on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona as well as a year serving at church historical sites in Wyoming. He served with his wife and companion, Kathleen, and described those mission years as some of the best.

Fred will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
