Obituary

Fred Paul Pratt of Huntington Beach, California passed into eternal celebration with Christ on September 30th, 2014.

Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts to Fred W Pratt and Katherine (Caron) Pratt, Fred spent much of his early childhood in Macwahoc, Maine on his grandparent’s dairy farm, attending a one-room schoolhouse, and living with his many aunts and uncles and his beloved grandmother, Cora (Belyea) Caron. The family later sold their property and moved to Lewiston, Maine where Fred attended St. Dom’s High School until 1951 when he joined the United States Air Force. He completed his military service in April 1955 and returned to Lewiston, Maine where he met his former-wife, mother of his children, and life-long friend, Sandra (Brewer) Pratt. The couple was married in 1956.

Fred took great pride in his work ethic and in the early years of his marriage worked a variety of jobs to support his growing family. When the Pratt family moved to California in 1971, Fred was employed at Pasha Auto Transport where he remained for many years. In the 1980’s he owned and operated Fredo’s Pizza Factory in Fountain Valley where he employed many of his children’s friends. At the age of 62 and officially in retirement, Fred decided to obtain his GED so he could work part-time as a security guard for Pinkerton Security in the Bay Area. Fred signed up for classes at the local high school to prepare for the test. On the day of his first class, he passed all subjects and received his diploma. Fred enjoyed boasting that he was the oldest member of San Francisco High School, Class of 1995.

Fred was an avid, life-long sports fan and spent many years coaching his three sons various Little League teams and basketball teams in both Maine and California and was an enthusiastic supporter of any team his children or grandchildren were on. Fred was an unofficial, armchair coach of the Atlanta (formerly Boston) Braves, the New England Patriots, the Boston Celtics, the St. Louis Rams, and LA Angels. Fred loved Monday Night Football, ESPN and the Sports page of any newspaper he came across. He was pleased that his Angels had won the American League West title before he passed. Fred spent his final day watching Monday Night Football surrounded by his four children.

Fred’s greatest love was his children and grandchildren and he was a devoted and caring father and grandfather. He is survived by his sons Paul Pratt and Steven Pratt of Huntington Beach, Gregory Pratt (Lisa) of Fountain Valley, and his daughter Laurie Pratt of Aliso Viejo. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Jamie Dahlke (Steve), Isabelle Pratt, Jillian Pratt, Brandon Pratt (Jen), Garrett Pratt, Zachary Pratt, Gregory Pratt (Kayte), Lyndsay Espinoza (Michael), Cassandra Beck and Sabrina Beck; 7 great-grandchildren, Taryn Andrew and Grace Dalhke, Eve, Michael, and Rose Espinoza, and Liane Pratt; his brothers Tony (Venise) Pratt of Lewiston, Maine, Russell Pratt (Sharon) of Mechanic Falls, Maine; a sister, Louene Pratt of Darlington, South Carolina; and a very large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by son, Perry K. Pratt and a sister, Doralene Pratt of Minot, Maine.
