Frank Donahue

September 11, 1925 - June 16, 2026

Francis E. Donahue (Frank), a proud World War II veteran, devoted family man, and beloved figure to all who knew him, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 16, 2026. He was born on September 11. 1925 in Boston Massachusetts, and made his home in Mission Viejo, California in his later years.

Frank graduated from Mission High School in Roxbury MA in 1941, upon graduation he enrolled at Boston College at the age of 17. Upon the completion of his first year Frank answered his country’s call and enlisted into the Navy’s officers training school. At just 19 years old Frank became one of the youngest officers (Ensign and 1st Lieutenant) in the Pacific Fleet, serving with distinction from 1944-1945. After attending Notre Dame during his Navel training, upon his honorable discharge he graduated from Dartmouth College NH, in 1946. He married the love of his life Frances (Fran) Fitzgerald in February of 1947. That same quiet dedication carried him through more than 40 years with Liberty Mutual Insurance, where he built a distinguished career taking him from Boston, to Long Island, Buffalo, Poughkeepsie, New York City, and Scarsdale NY.

Frank was the cornerstone of his family’s life. He coached his children in sports at multiple levels and made it a point to be present at many of their events as possible. In his later years, he and Fran, explored the world together - a fitting reward for a life so fully lived. They were married for 58 years before her passing in 2005.

In 2006 Frank moved from Yorktown Heights. NY to Mission Viejo CA. Costa Del Sol is where Frank met his special friend Delores Shepard and many other friends which enriched his later years in life.

Frank is survived by his children Dave Donahue, Bob Donahue and wife Eileen, Karen Thunell and husband Joe, and Ken Donahue and wife Barbara; his grandchildren Brian Donahue and wife Alison, Gretchen Satallante, Keith Donahue and wife Cameron, Erik Thunell and wife Erin, Kyle Donahue and wife Lauren, Kevin Donahue and wife Allison, and CJ Donahue and wife Erin; and his great grandchildren Kellen, Declan, Ronan, Sebastian, Jasper, Cecily, Owen, Elsie, Kelly, Bridget, Ford, Beckham, Kaia and Bodhi.

Frank lived a century of purpose, love, and service. He will be deeply missed and long remembered.
