Obituary

Fay Murray (nee Manson), 90, died January 14, 2016 in Mission Viejo, California after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Fay was born February 23, 1925 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She was the youngest of three children. Fay graduated Gordon Bell High School in Winnipeg. During her high school career, she participated in track and field and set a school record in the high jump.

In 1946, she immigrated to California to join her fiancé, James Gordon Murray also of Winnipeg. They were married in California in September 1946. In addition to raising a family, Fay worked over twenty years for the Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office as a door-to-door assessor and in the Long Beach office. She retired from the County in 1978. She worked as a volunteer at Doctor’s Hospital in Lakewood, CA. Fay assisted her husband, Gordon, during his tenures as President of West Lakewood Little League and as a District Representative for thirteen Little Leagues in the Lakewood – Long Beach area. She was active with her children in Cub Scouts. Fay supported her sons when they played Little League Baseball, Pop Warner Football and high school football at Lakewood High School. She participated in a Mothers Tackle Football game as a fund raiser for her sons’ Pop Warner Football teams. Fay was an avid fan of all types of sports, especially the Dodgers, and attended her grandchildren’s baseball games and soccer games on a regular basis.

Fay is survived by her three sons, Richard Murray of Mission Viejo, California, Michael Murray of Monument, Colorado and William Murray of Cypress, California; three daughters-in-law, Paula Murray, Vickie Murray and Cindy Murray; five grandchildren, Kevin, Lindsay, Alison, William and Nicole; and six great grandchildren. Fay was preceded in death by her brother, William; her parents, William and Margaret Manson; her husband, Gordon; and sister, Doreen.

Funeral services for Fay Murray will be held Sunday, February 14, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at O’Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills, California 92653.
