Obituary

Fabiola Grijalva Johns, our loving “Mamita” and “Abuelita”, made her journey home to Our Lord on Sunday, May 26, 2019. Beloved by her parents Miguel Grijalva and Zoila Paez Grijalva, she was born in Quito, Ecuador where she lived with her five siblings, Benigna, Beatriz, Miguel, Galo and Rudy. In 1949, Mamita married the love of her life, Mario Augusto Alarcon, and they had four children. Tragically, her beloved husband was called to Heaven only seven years into their marriage. Mamita was very courageous in the face of adversity and ten years later, while learning English in California, she met and married a widower, Robert Kelly Johns. Together, they formed an international “Brady Bunch” family of seven teenagers, who they raised in San Juan Capistrano.

Our Mamita was a lover of life. She was always very proud of the accomplishments of her children, twelve grandchildren and soon to be twenty-one great grandchildren. Mamita traveled extensively in United States, South America and Europe. Music was a very important part of her life, especially opera, classical music and Latin American music.  The gardens at her home were always beautiful and filled with roses. She was known for creating elaborate Nativity scenes at Christmas which encompassed a third of her large living room. Mamita spent the latter years of her life rejoicing in the love she received from her children, grandchildren, and especially the great grandchildren who kept her so young at heart.

Mamita is survived by her children, Rosa, Augusto, Helena and Mario and their spouses, as well as by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her loving nieces and nephews.

A Rosary, Mass, and Celebration-of-Life will be held starting at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at St. Kilian Catholic Church, 26872 Estanciero Drive, Mission Viejo CA, 92691 (telephone 949-586-4440).

  5. May you be dancing in heaven with Jesus and your family who went before you. I cherish my memories of spending time at your house with Helena during Jr and Sr High. You were so welcoming and loving to let us dance in the living room and always had delicious food to share. You are a gracious lady who always showed love and acceptance.
