Obituary

EVANGELINE A. VITUG

On April 1, Wednesday, 8:15 pm, Evangeline (Lane) Vitug, loving wife of Manolito (Lito) passed away at the age of 85 after a courageous battle with heart failure.

Lane was born in Manila, Philippines to loving parents Benigno and Josefa Aldana on June 21, 1934, and was one of five children. After she graduated from Holy Ghost College she taught in high school for over ten years. She married Lito on December 17, 1960 and together they raised nine children.

Lane and Lito moved the family to California in November 1979 where they continued to rear their children, and together with their many friends, fostered great devotion to the Lord Jesus, the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph in the spirit of Opus Dei taught by St. Josemaria and Blessed Alvaro del Portillo. She fulfilled God’s will through her responsibilities as wife, mother, grandmother and friend with a lot of affection and great simplicity. She did this without complaining even when faced with adversities such as financial setbacks and illnesses in the family including her own.

Lane is survived by her husband Lito, children Noel, Martin (and Stephanie), Mark (and Ruth), Maritess (and Rick O’Donnell), Montse (and Mike Vroman), Todd Kupka (husband of deceased daughter Michelle), Michael (and Traci), Matthew, and May (and Tom Stoddard), and all the loving 23 grandchildren. Her loving and generous spirit evoked a very tender last end from her greatest love of Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

Her remains are at the O’Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills.

The Viewing and Holy Rosary will take place on Wednesday, April 8, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
You will be able to join us via streaming video for the Viewing and Holy Rosary at

Dear Manolito. We are so sorry for the loss of your wife, Envangeline. Sending our love and blessings to you and your family. Take care and if there’s anything we can do for you please let us know.

  2. Dearest Lito, Maritess, Montse and all:
Lane was such an example of cheerfulness, holiness, strength, and love. The eulogies were beautiful and a testimony to how she transmitted the love of Christ and Our Lady to everyone she met. I recall how she and my mother looked up lovingly at Our Lady of Guadalupe in the Villa when you all took a trip there. Although she is now enjoying her final home in the company of all the saints and can help us from heaven, her presence will be missed by those of us she leaves behind. She paved the way and now invites us to do the same. May Our Lord, Our Lady, St Joseph, St Josemaria and all intercessors give you peace and consolation.

  3. Dear Lane,
Your passing has been painful; yet, the grief is tempered and assuaged by a flood of happy memories. I will miss the much-anticipated cheerful calls that always started with “Hoy, Manuel.” The conversation always ended with the loving, caring “I just wanted to make sure you are OK.” “Hoy, Manuel” I had heard since we were growing up, and you became my older sister. We shared many, many, many Lucy-Charlie Brown moments together.Rita and I know that you are in God’s embrace, with Jesus, our Blessed Mother, and the Holy Spirit. Rejoice and Rest In Peace.
