Obituary

Espy a.k.a. Pacing Moylan was a much beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend during her 80 years.
She was born in Manila, Philippines on Jan. 24, 1927 and named Esperanza Ravadilla Jayme.  Her nickname was Pacing and she was the seventh of eight children born to Fortunato and Rosario Jayme.  Pacing’s siblings are Fortunato Jr., Cesar d, Melchor, Jesus d, Fe, Caridad, and Vicente.  The close-knit family lived very happily and she was spoiled by her doting parents who raised her to be a devout Catholic.  Pacing, like her two sisters and five brothers, graduated college, before marriage.  On Nov. 30, 1956, Pacing married an Irish American, U.S. Marine Gerald ‘Jerry’ Moylan.  He preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1999.  Although they came from different worlds, both of them were commited to loving each other and their three children.  They practiced their Catholic faith, and they communicated using their gift of humor.  She called Jerry ‘Sunshine’ and he called her ‘the Boss’ or  even ‘Mouth’ which always got her to laugh!
Pacing continued to be called that by her Jayme family but she was known more as Espy by her Moylan family and stateside friends.  Espy and Jerry had four children: Valerie 1957 -, Martin 1958 -, Hope 1959 – and Mary Elizabeth who died shortly after her premature birth in 1960.  As a career Marine, Jerry moved his family every 1-3 years before retiring in 1972.  Espy and Jerry decided to make El Toro their final home.  Espy was proud when Jerry and the three Moylan children all graduated from local colleges.  Espy was a traditional housewife and homemaker like most mothers of her day.  Although she was raised with maids during her own childhood, Espy learned to clean and cook in adulthood which kept her loving home running!  Her children were everything to her and she spoiled them!  In repayment, they honored her by growing up to be loving and Catholic-commited parents themselves.  Valerie is married to Donnie Dawson and has three children: Kimberly 21, Kelly 19, and Kevin 16.  Martin has three children named Jeremiah 21, Natalie 19, and Trevor 17.  Hope is married to Phil Petrozzi and their three children are Anthony 23, Jonathan 20, and Angela 17.
Espy had a happy and full life although she also struggled with hereditary heart disease especially at the end.  Through it all, she always was a positive and humorous person.  She  got along with everyone!  She loved to dance and eat!  She always had a smile and never complained!  Everyone loved being around her and she was happiest being with her children, nine grandchildren, and her siblings!   What a gift her life was to all of us!   What fun!
We will miss her so much!  God Bless our Esperanza.  May you enjoy the eternal company of your Jerry, your parents, and other relatives and friends who passed before you.  Now you can eat, laugh, and dance the heavenly nights away!

We first became acquainted with all of you in 1964 when we moved to California. I remember particularly that Espy took interest in all of us kids, asking us what we were learning in school, curious about our favorite activities, expressing genuine
interest. I was only 10 years old and this made me feel very important. On a much later visit to our home, I recall her admiring my father’s playfulness with my youngest brother. I learned later that this was her philosophy – have fun with the kids! I wish we could have visited more. It was a long drive to the Moylan home, but I’m grateful for the times we did share together and that I had a chance to see her again in the last few years. She never lost that smile! My condolences to you all. I know you will miss her deeply.

  2. I fondly remember Espy’s good sense of humor…her gentle laugh…her deep respect for her Church which I personally experienced e.g. when I asked, she would drink her water necessary for her well being. I remember our trip to Riverside with Valerie, Kimberly, Kelly, Kevin to visit her husband’s and my father’s graves. I remember that Espy loved to eat and especially Japanese food.
Espy, may you enjoy everlasting sunshine with your “Sunshine”.
    Love you, Sr. Pat.

  3. Espy was such a warm and caring woman who was especially kind and sympathetic to my mother. My mother also had a severe stroke and Espy and Valerie visited her while she was struggling to recover. Espy was always asking Valerie how my mother was doing. Sadly, my mother’s condition has progressively worsened and she is not doing well. Espy and Valerie have continued to give their love and support. Only those who have seen a loved one suffer can truly rejoice when that suffering ends and that loved one is with God. I will always remember Espy’s beautiful smile. She was so attentive and such a good listener. In my heart I truly believe that when my mother’s time comes to leave this earth, Espy will be waiting for her, guiding her and holding her hand to meet our Lord in heaven. With love, Cathy Omatsu

  4. We truly live in great times. Our generation is enjoying our parents for many more years than our parents generation did. Although we are on two different coasts, that never separated us as family. The memories will live forever. Valerie, how about our trip to Las Vegas in the late ’70’s. I will never forget the look on your mothers face when i walked in the hotel room at around 7:30 in the morning to which she stated”my jimmy your an early riser” and my reply…Riser I haven’t been to bed. and her response was “oh my”.Truly a classic memory.
Although our times together have been few, they were really good ones! Our love, thoughts and prayers to you, Martin and Hope, and your families.
    Love,
    Jimmy & Denise

My fondest memories of your mom always involve the fuss she would make over us. Whenever I would see her she would pinch my cheek and declare to the room how handsome I was. Not just good looking boys, no, to your Mom her east coast nephews were “like movie stars.” Without fail, right up to my wedding day, in your Mom’s eyes, I was movie star handsome and she never forgot to tell me. Just as she looked at us through the rose colored glasses of an aunt, I think she looked at life that way; she always had a smile on her face.
Every boy should be as lucky as we were to have an aunt that could turn a bunch of pudgy Irish faces into movie stars, even if for only a moment. Valerie, Hope and Martin our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your families.
    James and Karla Varley
