Obituary

Ernest “Ernie” Castro lost his courageous battle against colon cancer on January 3, 2014 at the age of 56.

Born July 22, 1957 in Chula Vista, California to Tony and Stella Castro, he lived his early life in Hawthorne, California attending Hawthorne High School and Long Beach State University. He moved to Orange County in 1980 and resided in Aliso Viejo until his death.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 34 years Peggy, daughter Kim (Justin), soon to be born grandson Alex, and daughter Liz, mother Stella, and brothers Mike and Dave and their families.

An avid sports enthusiast, his first love was baseball and coaching Little League. We will all miss his fun-loving, easygoing personality, big hugs, and contagious smile. Our family trips to Las Vegas and Del Mar will never be the same.

A celebration of life will be held at O Connor Mortuary Chapel on Friday, January 10 at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society at http://main.acsevents.org/goto/Ernie_Castro

Or if you would like to donate towards the scholarship fund for the Rancho Santa Margarita Little League, please mail checks to ‘Rancho Santa Margarita Little League’ and note that the donation is in remembrance of Ernie Castro at the bottom of the check.

I will always remember Ernie as a kind, loving and funny guy. Always a smile on his face. All the years he played Santa when the kids were little and the funny things he would say to Peggy when she sat on Santa’s lap. You were truly a blessing in our lives and will always be remembered as uncle Ernie to my boys. I’m sure you and Tom will be watching over all of us from the best seat in the house.

Uncle Ernie was a special person to all of us. He always knew how to put a smile on someone’s face no matter what type of mood you were in. In my eyes he was that special person you could go to and get whatever it was off your mind. Still remember when he came to my baseball tournament’s just to watch me pitch. I love this man with all my heart and will always remember the good times.

  3. Ernie was one of the most amazing men I have ever known and am beyond blessed to have had him in my life for over three years. I remember when I had just started dating Kimmy, we went over to her parents house so that I could meet them. Kimmy spoke so highly of her daddy that I felt very comfortable going over there. Well, I instantly loved that man because being from Chicago, I’m a die hard sports fan of Chicago teams and this man answers the door in a BLACKHAWKS jersey!!! The next few years were filled with golf, the racetrack, family get togethers and a lot love and laughter. I will miss this man until the day I see him again…just make it a Bears jersey this time Ernie!
