Obituary

Ernest “Ernie” Castro lost his courageous battle against colon cancer on January 3, 2014 at the age of 56.

Born July 22, 1957 in Chula Vista, California to Tony and Stella Castro, he lived his early life in Hawthorne, California attending Hawthorne High School and Long Beach State University. He moved to Orange County in 1980 and resided in Aliso Viejo until his death.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 34 years Peggy, daughter Kim (Justin), soon to be born grandson Alex, and daughter Liz, mother Stella, and brothers Mike and Dave and their families.

An avid sports enthusiast, his first love was baseball and coaching Little League. We will all miss his fun-loving, easygoing personality, big hugs, and contagious smile. Our family trips to Las Vegas and Del Mar will never be the same.

A celebration of life will be held at O Connor Mortuary Chapel on Friday, January 10 at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society at http://main.acsevents.org/goto/Ernie_Castro

Or if you would like to donate towards the scholarship fund for the Rancho Santa Margarita Little League, please mail checks to ‘Rancho Santa Margarita Little League’ and note that the donation is in remembrance of Ernie Castro at the bottom of the check.

Ernie, there are so many things that I already miss about you. The one that stands out is the family games of Tripoli, you and Peggy always had me in tears of laughter.

    Love you,

    Your brother Mike

  3. Mark and I will always remember Ernie as the “softball king”. His forever smile and friendliness towards everyone was a blessing. We are both sorry to hear about his passing. Peggy please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Ernie, I can’t count all the great times we had together! We watched our daughter Pam, grow up with her cousins-Kim and Liz. I remember birthday parties for the kids; such as rollerblading, etc. As my brother-in-law, you were always smiling and generous. My husband Tom and I felt you could light up a room., and you were “Larger than life.” One of my fondest memories was when we traveled to Las Vegas. My sister Peggy was expecting Liz-and we learned how to be lounge lizards-in between gambling of course!! Also. we miss Antonucci’s pizza night. Love, Kathy and Tom Clark

  5. “Uncle Ernie…Ern Dog” was a bright light to the Buchanan, Clark, Enger, Potts and Waid families and my beloved brother-in-law. He was always fun, loud, happy and loved everyone. Not a phony bone in his body. When my husband Cliff brought him to play hockey on his team, they all fell in love with Ernie and couldn’t wait ’til he showed up again. Cliff said he was such a great hockey player he was actually “too good” for our team! That is how he’ll be remembered…loved, courageous, strong and made everyone better. Thank you God for sharing this wonderful soul with all of us. May Ernie’s eternal optimism and bravery surround Peggy, Kim and Liz until we all meet again.
