Obituary

Erika Wunderlich, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, died of cancer on September 6, 2004 at her Fountain Valley home.

Erika was born September 16, 1939 in Hofstetten, Germany to Franz and Theresia Huck. She had two brothers, Alfred and Engelbert Huck. She lived in Sinzheim, Germany until 1952.

Erika worked in a convalescent home in Heidelberg from 1953 through 1955 where she practiced what she did best, caring for others. She studied and worked as a nurse at Theresia Hospital in Mannheim, Germany from 1955 until 1960. She met Heinz Wunderlich, who would become her husband in 1958 while working in the hospital.

In October 1960, she immigrated to the United States and married Heinz one month later. She had a son, Thomas Wunderlich, in March 1966 and a daughter, Janet Wunderlich-Haigg, in March 1969.

Erika was delighted to meet her first grandchild, Savanah Haigg on March 30, 2001. They had a very special relationship, as she was always so loving and giving to children.

Erika touched the lives of many people and will always be remembered for her courage, kindness, devotion and her gentle ways.

She is survived by her husband Heinz, son Thomas, daughter Janet, granddaughter Savanah Haigg, brothers Engelbert and Alfred, and mother Theresia.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks a donation be made in her name towards the Hoag Cancer Center Fund 949 764-7217

  2. To our dearest friends, we share ever so deeply with you in your loss. We understand the loss of a parent, especially one who is as special as your mother was. I always wanted to meet her in person but felt I already knew her from the wonderful stories you told me and how fantastic a relationship she and Savanah had. I am so glad that you took so many photos of the two “girls” together. This next year will be really difficult for you and we will be praying for strength and peace for all of you. Please know that you can call or drop by whenever you feel the need, you know where the key is and we are used to taking “late night calls”! We know that your mother is no longer suffering and that she is in the best place she can be to be able to help you in the days, weeks, months, and years ahead of all of you.
May your love for eachother grow even stronger with the realization of how short our time on this earth is.
    Lovingly,
    David and Sondra

  4. My prayers are with the Wunderlichs and their families in this time of sorrow. Having never met Mrs. Wunderlich, I know only of her gracious spirit from her beautiful daughter, my friend Janet. I’m so very sorry. I wish you strength and peace. My love, Monique
