Obituary

Erika Wunderlich, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, died of cancer on September 6, 2004 at her Fountain Valley home.

Erika was born September 16, 1939 in Hofstetten, Germany to Franz and Theresia Huck. She had two brothers, Alfred and Engelbert Huck. She lived in Sinzheim, Germany until 1952.

Erika worked in a convalescent home in Heidelberg from 1953 through 1955 where she practiced what she did best, caring for others. She studied and worked as a nurse at Theresia Hospital in Mannheim, Germany from 1955 until 1960. She met Heinz Wunderlich, who would become her husband in 1958 while working in the hospital.

In October 1960, she immigrated to the United States and married Heinz one month later. She had a son, Thomas Wunderlich, in March 1966 and a daughter, Janet Wunderlich-Haigg, in March 1969.

Erika was delighted to meet her first grandchild, Savanah Haigg on March 30, 2001. They had a very special relationship, as she was always so loving and giving to children.

Erika touched the lives of many people and will always be remembered for her courage, kindness, devotion and her gentle ways.

She is survived by her husband Heinz, son Thomas, daughter Janet, granddaughter Savanah Haigg, brothers Engelbert and Alfred, and mother Theresia.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks a donation be made in her name towards the Hoag Cancer Center Fund 949 764-7217

    Dear Janet,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I only hope that she did not suffer too much.
I know how much this hurts and how little I can say that will ease the pain. I still miss my mother although it’s been almost 10 years.
The one thing she said to me shorty before passing away was “Promise me this, always remember me smiling”
    And I do.
Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.
    Love,George and Suki.

I’m sure your Mother was always very proud of you and loved you like no other. You will always have that with you.

    Dear Tom and Family,

My deepest sympathy go out to you in this time of loss and sorrow. I know how difficult it is with the passing of both my parents, but I found strength knowing they are still with me, and are at peace. Erika will always be with you, too.
