IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Emmet Michael
Murphy
August 7, 1942 – May 22, 2025
Emmet M. Murphy, 82, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, following a long illness. A proud New Yorker born to Irish immigrants Timothy and Nora Murphy, Emmet grew up in Queens, where he filled his childhood with street stickball games, snow sledding adventures, and deep roots in his Catholic parish community. His charm, humor, and leadership qualities were evident from an early age and would remain hallmarks of his character throughout his life.
Emmet served honorably in the United States Air Force, working in the film lab—a role that launched his lifelong career in the entertainment industry. After his service, he joined Duart Studios in New York, followed by a position at Deluxe also in New York, before accepting a position at Technicolor in California, where he rose through the ranks over a 25-year career. Afterward, he co-founded a successful business with a colleague before retiring fully to enjoy even more time with family and friends and on the golf course.
While on leave from the Air Force, Emmet met his beloved wife, Dianna McCumber, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The couple married in December 1962 and spent nearly 63 devoted years together. They raised four children and built a life rich in love, laughter, and family.
Emmet was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Monsignor Timothy J. Murphy, his sister Air Force Colonel Pat Murphy and his daughter Diane Davies. He is survived by his loving wife Dianna; son Michael Murphy (Nancy); daughter Kim Murphy Thomas; son Timothy Murphy; and five grandchildren: Samantha and Megan Davies, Kaitlyn and Claire Thomas, and Emmet Murphy Jr.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, kind heart, unwavering devotion to family, and deep pride in his Irish heritage. Emmet was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a friend to many.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 12:00 PM at San Francisco Solano Catholic Church, 22082 Antonio Parkway, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688.
