Emma The, 96, went to the Lord on July 6, 2014 at Hoag Hospital in Irvine. Emma was one of nine children born to Hay Djoen Tio and Siet Nio Ong in Surabaya, Indonesia. She was a cherished mother, wife, aunt, and friend. Emma came to the United States in 1969. She was predeceased by her husband of thirty-one years, Joseph The. Emma retired from Hughes Aircraft in 1990. She lived with her devoted only child, Hedy, in Mission Viejo for twenty-five years and resided in California for forty-five years.

Everyone who knew Emma loved her. She was known for her delicious cakes and her Dutch-Indonesian and Chinese cooking that she prepared for holidays and special events. On July 18, the viewing will be from 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m., followed by the Rosary at O’Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on July 19 at 10:30a.m. at St. Kilian Catholic Church, 26872 Estanciero Drive, Mission Viejo. The burial will be at Good Shepherd Cemetery, 8301 Talbert Avenue, Huntington Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations in Emma’s name may be sent to The American Heart Association. 1-800-242-8721.
