Obituary

Elizabeth “Liz” Mary Korkis was born in Westwood, New Jersey on December 27th, 1987 and went to heaven on May 24th, 2020 at the age of 32. She is survived by her husband Phillip Korkis; they were a loving couple who resided together in Redondo Beach, California. She passed away with her family by her side–her husband Phil, her parents, Gerard Gendron Sr. and Ellen Gendron, her sisters Rebecca Kelley and Kaitlin Decker, and her brothers Gerard Gendron Jr and Brian Gendron.

At the age of 2 Liz moved with her family to Laguna Hills, Orange County where she grew up in a loving home with her siblings and parents. She attended Laguna Hills High School and went on to attend Chico State University alongside her sister Kaitlin. Upon graduating in 2010, Liz went on to pursue her passion of dedicating her life to helping others. For the next seven years she worked as a hospice nurse and then a licensed vocational nurse. She attended West Coast University to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree, which she completed in 2017. She then went on to serve as an RN in Torrance, California.

To know Liz was to love Liz. She was a beautiful woman inside and out, who lit up the room with her smile, laughter, and mere presence. Her caring nature and warm demeanor made her family, friends and even strangers feel loved and special.

Liz met her husband when she was in elementary school, as Phil was one of her brother Brian’s best friends.  Little did they know, many years later their paths would cross again and they would find each other the loves of their lives.

Beyond being an amazing wife, daughter and sister, Liz was also a beloved auntie to a number of nephews and nieces. From big hugs and kisses every time she saw them, to sleepovers and special presents during birthdays and holidays, she was an auntie the kids will miss dearly. Her spirit lives on through them.

For 2 years Liz fought cancer with courage and bravery. She always held her head high and her love of life and sense of humor was evident til the very end of her life.

She loved the bible verse, “Let all that you do be done in love”. In her 32 years she never wavered from living her life this way. Her family and friends hope to honor her by doing the same each day.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Liz’ honor to the Liz Korkis Memorial Fund (Lizzykorkis.org). This fund will help new nurses at Torrance Memorial receive aid for their student debt.

    Liz,
For the few years I’ve known you at NOH, you were one of the well loved, bright, young LVNs. Always had a smile and kept staff and patients happy. I remember you’d finish my singing verses of 90s-2000s r&b in the hallway. Lol. Live in Paradise, homegirl.

Liz, I just found out about your passing and I am deeply saddened. It was a pleasure working along side you at New Orange Hills. You were such a beautiful person inside and out. Your light shone through on the toughest days and with the most difficult patients. We didn’t work together long but you are one of those people I will never forget! Until we meet again, rest in peace sweet Liz ❤
