Obituary

Eleanor Bernardene Chubeck, age 93, passed away on Saturday February 13, 2016 at Mission Hospital in Orange County, California. She was residing with and lovingly cared for by her niece, Laurie Johnston, and her husband, Steve Johnston, at the time of her death. She enjoyed a joyful family life with her great nephews, Garrett (11) and Caden (6), and her great niece, Peyton (11) and a Bernese Mountain Doodle named Sierra. A sister, Mary Piendel, and her other nieces, Connie Williams, Betty Estock Manson, Joan Colatosti, Barbara Kocher, Sandy Mott, Carolyn Jahde, Barrie Alexander, Cyndy Dutson, Debbie Mrugala, and a nephew, William Hill, survive her.

Ellie was the fourth of six daughters born in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania to immigrant parents, Paul and Cassie Chubeck. She was employed as an accountant by Western Electric, which became AT&T. She and was a dedicated worker in their New York office for 30 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

She chose early retirement and eagerly moved to LaJolla where she shared a home with her sister, Florence Byrnes and often saw another sister, Barbara Harmon. Ellie thoroughly enjoyed her long retirement and the local climate. She learned to drive and bought her first car! She took up golf and spent many happy days at Lomas Santa Fe Golf Course. She worshipped as an active member of Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
