Obituary

Egon was born on September 2, 1936 in Erfurt Germany. Following his father’s footsteps, he studied as an apprentice baker where he excelled. At the beginning of the communist occupation of Germany, he escaped and arrived in Ottawa Canada in the late 50’s. There he met his lifelong sweetheart and wife Daniela. After the arrival of their only child Robert, they emigrated to the United States and settled in Glendale, Ca. Egon perfected his craft and provided his services to the motion picture industry as well as the public sector. He and his wife ultimately owned two Baskin-Robbins stores and a 20-unit motel. They retired early in Dana Point, CA and subsequently traveled the world, embarking on wonderful adventures together. His favorite destination was Tahiti and Bora Bora. He lived a wonderful life full of love, laughter, humility, and honesty and was one of the most giving individuals we could ever imagine. He had a family spirit that was second to none.

Egon was preceded in death by his brother Peter, his wife Daniela, and his granddaughter Jessica. He is survived by his son Robert, daughter-in-law Christie, grandchildren Garrett, Lindsey, and Ashley, great grandchildren Bella and Riley. Egon was loved by countless many and has left and enduring legacy that will last a lifetime.

  1. To my wonderful father, you are the best in every way. My confidant, my friend, my dad, so humble so kind so giving. Always willing to listen when I needed you too. I am going to miss you so much. I have no words to describe how I feel that you’re now gone. It will be very difficult without you around to lend us your unending support. All the time that you and I have spent together these last few years especially, I will never ever ever forget. We had some great times together. Christie is so heartbroken. We love you so much dad, grandpa. You will be forever in our hearts and the memories will be everlasting. Love you and sleep with the angels OK? And say hi to mom and Jessy for me.

    Your son

  2. My deepest sympathies to all the family for your loss. A amazing strong wonderful man full of life and joy. Very honored Egon Kampczyk we met and thankful. You will always be remembered for your smile and forever in our hearts.

  3. I first met Egon Kampczyk, my best friend Robert’s father in 1978, and from that moment on, I realized how special an individual he was: kind, diligent, funny, tough when he needed to be, and full of spirit and character. He embodied the Greatest Generation, people who fought through life’s challenges, didn’t complain, and persevered. The three of us spent countless hours watching sports together, laughing, talking politics (and mostly agreeing!), and I consider every encounter to have been a positive and rewarding one. From his devotion to his beautiful and wonderful wife Daniela to his joie de vivre and wonderful relationship with Robert, who was such a great son to him, he in many ways set a very high standard that too few of us can really live up to. I have lost not only a great friend, but a true role model. Rest in peace, Egon. You made my life better by virtue of my having known you. See you in the next world.
