Edward A. Chasteney III, MD

March 4, 1930 – May 31, 2026

Edward A. Chasteney III, MD, passed away on May 31, 2026, in Mission Viejo, California, at the age of 96. He lived a long and distinguished life devoted to medicine, family, education, and the communities he called home.

Born on March 4, 1930, Edward was the son of Elsie R. Chasteney and Edward A. Chasteney Jr. He grew up on Philadelphia’s Main Line and remained closely connected to the area throughout his career and much of his life. He graduated from The Haverford School in 1948, Williams College in 1952, and Temple University College of Medicine in 1956. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia PA.

Dr. Chasteney practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1962 until his retirement in 1998, serving patients at Presbyterian Hospital, Lankenau Hospital, and Paoli Hospital. At Lankenau, he served as President of the Medical Staff and was deeply involved in the education and training of generations of Obstetrics and Gynecology residents. His commitment to teaching and mentorship left a lasting impression on many physicians who went on to careers of their own.

Beyond medicine, Edward was committed to education and his community. He served for many years on the Board of Directors of The Haverford School, an institution that had been an important part of his own life.

Edward was married to Edith S. Chasteney, MD, who preceded him in death in 2001. Their shared love of family and dedication to medicine and education was an important part of their life together.

Following his retirement, Edward moved to Williamsburg, Virginia, where he enjoyed his next chapter of life before eventually moving to Dana Point, California, where he lived for the final 14 years of his life.

An avid golfer, Edward was a longtime member of Merion Golf Club as well as Ford’s Colony Golf Club in Williamsburg, VA. Golf was a favorite pastime and provided him with many years of friendship, camaraderie, and enjoyment.

Edward is survived by his three children: Mark E. Chasteney, MD; Suzanne C. Reinfeldt; and Edward A. Chasteney IV, MD. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Krista Reinfeldt, Alyssa Dolley, Alexander Reinfeldt, and Olivia Chasteney, and his three great-grandchildren: Easton Dolley, Harper Dolley and Beau Dolley. He was predeceased by his sister Patricia C Sawin.

Edward Chasteney will be remembered not only for his distinguished career in medicine, but also for his dedication to teaching, his commitment to education, his love of golf, and, most importantly, his devotion to his family. His influence lives on through the generations of family members, patients, physicians, students, and friends whose lives he touched.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
