Obituary

Dorothy Ann Gardner
Devoted wife, mother, and grandmother

Dorothy Ann Gardner, 84, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023. Dorothy was born December 30, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois to Fred and Dorothy St. Germaine. She was the younger sister to Bob St. Germaine.

Dorothy attended nursing school at Thornton College, Illinois. She went to work in hospitals and nursing homes in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and California for over 40 years.

Dorothy met Tom Gardner while working at a bakery in Chicago. Dorothy recalled that Tom would come in to buy cookies but he later admitted that he really went to see Dorothy. The two quickly fell in love and got married on September 5, 1964. They were each other’s lifelong companions and best friends. They traveled the world and enjoyed activities together like tennis and skiing. They were blessed with two children: Robb and Debbie.

Dorothy loved to spend time with her grandchildren and would do anything for her family. She always volunteered to host the entire family for every holiday, weekend barbecue, or birthday celebration, and loved bringing everyone together. Her hobbies included painting, baking, playing piano, and swimming.

Dorothy is survived by her two children, Debbie and Robb, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Her husband Thomas Gardner preceded her in death.

Dorothy will especially be remembered for her willingness to care for others, her unshakable faith in God, and her devotion to her family.

Funeral service and reception will be held Saturday, September 16, at 10:00 am at O’Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills.
