Obituary

Doris was born on January 28, 1942, in Camden, N.J. She left to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 23, 2016. Doris had a gentle, beautiful spirit and we were all blessed to have her presence in our lives. Teachers in the Fountain Valley School system, where Doris worked at Fulton Middle School, would tell you she was always a “Jersey” girl; sassy and fun-loving with a deep impact on all who knew her and her love of life.

Doris was drum majorette for the Audubon Bon-Bons all girl drum and bugle corps based in Audubon, New Jersey. It is no surprise to anyone who knew Doris that she led and competed in the only all-girl drum and bugle corp. in the United States at that time. Even after leaving the Bon-Bons, Doris used “The Audubon Kid” as her official internet handle. She remained dedicated and loyal to Audubon, NJ all of her life.

Doris will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends. She gave us all a true example of courage, grace and love. Doris lost her battle with COPD, and the family requests that any donations be made to The American Lung Association for continued research to cure this deadly disease.

Doris is survived by her loving husband, Bill, and her five children, Mary Ellen Russell, Debora Ann McCann, William T. McCann, Jr., Diana Ruth Viguri and Jennifer Lynn McCann. She believed her legacy lay with her grandchildren, Eli and Quinn McCann, Erin June McCann, Kaitlyn Faith Viguri, and Ashlyn June McCann.

We say goodbye to our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend – until we meet again.

Church services will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church located at 17270 Ward Street, Fountain Valley, CA, on March 3, 2016 at 3 PM. All are welcome to come and celebrate Doris’ life with us.

  1. Dear Bill and your family–We had the privilege to meet Doris and you a few years ago at Mary Ellen and Dave’s home. Joe and I immediately felt comfortable chatting and you and Joe shared some old stories. We are so sorry for your loss and send you and your family thoughts and prayers. Doris was a strong woman with a huge heart and loved her family dearly, as they loved her. May she rest in peace until we all meet again.
    Love, Lucy and Joe

  2. Mom, your beautiful spirit will be missed by everyone. But your children and your grandchildren get to carry you with us forever. Love always, Mary Ellen

It’s difficult to describe, in words, how the loss of Doris has impacted us.
She leaves us with many great memories, especially, that great laugh of hers, and her little pearls of wisdom.
    We will miss you!!!
