Donna Rae
Mulvaney
November 9, 1935 – April 21, 2026
The family and friends are grieving the passing of Donna R Mulvaney on April 21, 2026 in her beloved city of Laguna Niguel. She was born November 9, 1935, in Winners, South Dakota to Hugh & Virginia Witschy McPherson. Her 90 years were filled with family and community. Donna will be remembered for her laughter, kindness, love of her tree grove, and her unwavering ability to inspire everyone whom she met.
Donna married her high school sweetheart just after graduating Montebello High School on November 12, 1955. They honeymooned at Disneyland which became their “happiest place on earth”. She is survived by her son, Michael Mulvaney, daughter, Karen Wentworth, & son-in-law, Mike Wentworth, grandson, Michael Wentworth and his wife Rebecka, and two great grandsons.
Donna gave more of herself than she could ever have received in any one lifetime. Her community was her playground for many years of volunteerism. She became a Cub Scout Den Leader in 1966 when her son wanted his friends to “build things”. Her garage became the place to create and be loud. In 1968 she became a Girl Scout leader when her daughter’s troop needed a Cadette leader. This was the beginning of 50 years in Girl Scouting and continued just days before her passing. She served at the Orange County Girl Scout Council as 2nd Vice President, trainer, troop consultant, and Senior Troop leader in Laguna Niguel/Aliso Niguel service unit for 25 years. Her ability to inspire girls and adults to be the best part of their community will be her legacy.
You could find Donna at her beloved tree grove, Niguel Botanical Preserve, organizing work parties, planting daffodils, conducting educational workshops for Girl Scout Troops from communities near and far. She joined the Board of Niguel Botanical Preserve where she served 35 years and counting. Her love of community since moving to Laguna Niguel in 1973, included membership with Laguna Niguel Historical Society, American Legion Auxiliary, and South Orange County Republicans. The City of Laguna Niguel named Donna Citizen of the Year in 1989.
Her final words; “She loved you all and thank you for your friendships”
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Niguel Botanical Preserve amphitheater on June 7, 2026. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her name to the Niguel Botanical Preserve and Girl Scouts of Orange County.
