  1. Dearest England family,

We are so sorry to hear about Don’s passing. He had the best laugh. We have such fond memories of him dressing up as Santa when our kids were young (although our smart girls always knew it was Grandpa). We will be keeping you all in our prayers during this difficult time.

    With love,
    The Wynkoop family

    Dear England Family,

I’m so sorry to hear the news. I wish I could be there for the service, but I’ll be all the way over in Asia and can’t make it back in time. Having grown up with Tim and being a close friend since we were in fourth grade together, I feel in a way like an extended member of the family. It’s not only because we were kids together growing up, but because Don and Rhona always treated me like one of their own – – giving me snacks after school, Don played pool with me and Tim and even taught us how to drive. Don was so exotic for me as a kid – – with that insane laugh, anti-establishment attitude and utter distrust of authority – – he was such a refreshing adult alternative. He was really kind and loving to me always and he made me feel important and confident. He never treated me like a kid, but he never pressured me to be anything more than that. Don brought Tim into a role of real responsibility at his old factory, Nona Boats, while we were still kids and it was fascinating to see how they worked as partners of sorts, while we were still fairly young. Don always gave Tim a lot of respect and a lot of leash – – I’m sure it was this investment and trust in Tim that has helped make him such a great dad and husband today. While I haven’t spent much time with Don and Rhona in recent years, I’ve kept up with Tim and Dina and I know the families have remained close. Thanks Englands for making me feel a part of your tribe and thanks Don for the gift of Tim and the rest of the England family’s love. Don was a colorful, unpredictable force of nature, and he was the first adult that helped me see that life after 20 isn’t all dull. My deepest condolences as we say goodbye to Don. I’m wishing you and yours as much comfort as possible. Love, Tom
