Obituary

Don Kansteiner passed away peacefully in his home with his family by his side on October 31, 2012 in Laguna Beach in his ninetieth year, after complications following a recent illness. He was born on July 4, 1923 to Melvern and Emmy Lou Kansteiner in Chicago, Illinois where he attended Senn High School.

Don served in World War II in the Army Corps of Civil Engineers. After the war he earned his B.A. in Business Administration at Northwestern University. He spent most of his career in the furniture business working in sales, marketing and management for industry leaders such as Kroehler Manufacturing. He had an entrepreneurial nature and was a principal in Elite Upholstery Co., Inc. and Anatomic Concepts, Inc.

Don was a family man who was physically, mentally and spiritually active his entire life. He enjoyed daily workouts, walks on the beach, golf, bridge and poker with “the boys.” He was an avid reader and a seeker of spiritual truths, which he explored regularly in his book club. Don was active socially, added life to every party and traveled worldwide with his wife, Peggy. With his wit, intellect and sense of humor he was always ready to engage in lively discussions, especially if it was about politics. Friends and family describe him as charming, a character, elegant and fun to be with.

Don was a much-loved man. With his charismatic personality, beautiful smile and loving heart, he made everyone in his life feel special. Don is survived by Peggy, his wife of thirty years, as well as his children, Linda Kansteiner, Jodie Koerner, Don Kansteiner, Lori Kansteiner, Gwen Brookins and Kathy Salgan; his sons and daughter-in-law, Bob Koerner, Roberta Kansteiner, Brook Brookins, Scott Salgan and Bob Ryan; his grandchildren, Jennifer Ross, Erica Ross, Jamie McGuire, Lauren Brookins, Paul Salgan and Amy Salgan; he is also survived by his sister, Peggy Dolan of Boynton Beach, Florida; his niece and nephews, Marilu Warner, Robert Dolan, Jim Dolan and their children.

A service will be held at St. Catherine’s of Sienna in Laguna Beach on November 12, 2012 at 10:30 am. A reception celebrating his life will follow at Aliso Creek Inn and Golf Course. A private scattering at sea will be held for close friends and family.
