Obituary

Donald A. Albright
6/10/1936 – 10/27/2017

Donald Allan Albright, 81, passed away on 10/27/2017 after a courageous ten-year battle with colon cancer. He was at home, in El Toro, CA surrounded by family. Born and raised in Greenfield, Ohio, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Sarah Nicley, and granddaughter, Chelsea Buckley.

Don met Sarah Nicley, the love of his life, as a young boy. The two married in June 1957, started a family, and moved west to California in 1966. Eventually, they settled in El Toro, CA where they dedicated their lives to raising their family.

Don took a particular interest in the local history of El Toro and spent many years sharing his knowledge as a Docent at Heritage Hill Historical Park. An avid sports enthusiast, Don was especially fond of his Cincinnati Reds.

A dedicated son, husband, father, uncle, Poppa, and G-Pa, Don was most proud of his family. He is survived by his four children (Ann, Tim, Todd, and Teresa), 8 grandchildren (Ashley, Brian, Nicole, Scott, Allison, Taylor, Sam, and Shawna), and a great grandson, Kody.

Always loving, supportive, and a man of great honor, Don’s quiet strength and sharp wit will be deeply missed.

A family service will take place on Friday, November 10th. Interment will be at El Toro Memorial Park where he will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife. In lieu of flowers, please kindly consider a donation in Don Albright’s name to Amigos de la Colina.

  2. Ann, Tim, Todd and Teresa:

Not sure whether any of you will remember me. It has been so many, many years. But I must tell you how your family holds such a dear place in my heart.

I was so saddened to read in the Greenfield paper of your Dad’s passing. He and your Mother both were such sweet hearts, and I can’t begin to tell you how much time my family spent with your grandparents, my adopted “Aunt” Edna and “Uncle” Carl. There isn’t a time that I don’t think of them when I drive by the darling little house that sits on the corner of 5th and Spring. Vacations spent together and many Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day gatherings when, for one reason or another, they couldn’t spend that time with you. I never really got to know you as you lived so far away, but I got to know your Mom and Dad because I was a young teenager before they left for California. One memory I have of Ann and Tim is of you both jumping on a bed and I would catch you!! The other two were quite small then if I remember correctly. I do remember us having a great time!!!

Our family’s friendship started way back in the 50’s somewhere when your grandmother went to work for my Dad who was a dentist, Dr. Jack. Mom and Edna quickly became dear friends and it wasn’t long till they were joining us for dinner and us girls were taking shopping trips. I was also fascinated watching Uncle Carl when was playing with his HAM radio and talking to people in Alaska and other far away places. When I was smaller, I loved to sit on his lap. I loved them both so much.

I know you have lots to do so I won’t take up any more of your time. Thank you so much for notifying us here in little old Greenfield about your Dad’s passing. We would email occasionally, but I hadn’t spoken to him in ages. I had no idea he was so gravely ill, and my most heartfelt sympathy is with you and all the family. I am sure he will be horribly missed. He was a great man!

If you would like to correspond further with me, I would truly love it. My email is kick.thompson1353@gmail.com. I am still in Greenfield, and will probably be here till the end. It hasn’t changed much over the years, but it is Home.

    God Bless you all.

Daughter of Ruth and Jack Weinrich
