Obituary

Our loved son, Derrick was born on July 3, 1982 and died on May 16, 2024.  He will always be missed.  Derrick struggled with mental health issues and strove to meet life’s challenges.

Derrick enjoyed working at the family’s sign company and considered his fellow workers as friends.  He loved music and could sing well and play guitar and drums.  He took pride and care of his car and was a very good driver.  He respected and looked up to his Father and his brother Scott and could always talk to his Mother.  Those talks and conversations will be missed.

Derrick had a great love of his life and his family is grateful that he experienced a true love with Cristina.  Derrick will be remembered for his kindness and his sense of humor and his laughing at his own jokes.

Our cat Oscar was adopted from the Mission Viejo Animal Shelter and Oscar quickly adopted Derrick as his “person.”  Oscar was Derrick’s shadow.

The family thanks our family and friends for their gifts of kindness and for their prayers.

The family plans a private gathering in Hawaii which is a place with fond memories for Derrick and family.  Derrick was happy there.

Derrick is survived by his parents, Richard and Millie Christie and his brother Scott and his wife Mary Beth and their children, Simon, Caroline and Mitchell and numerous aunts and uncles and cousins.

I will always remember Derrick as someone who was kind and always mindful of other people. Once he sat in our kitchen, playing the guitar and singing his own “cutco” song to sell us a set of knives !! Rest in peace, Derrick! We will be together again! May God keep you close as you sing to Him!
