  1. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the time we got to spend just a short while ago. We send love and happiness to you, your daughter, girlfriend and family.

  2. Derek, from the time I met you I loved your smile and could see you were a person with great joy. I wish time would have allowed me to know you better and work with you more. I enjoyed seeing the relationship you had with your father on your visits and I will always remember your kind spirit.

  3. Dear Cliff and family,

I’m utterly chocked at this news of Derek’s passing. Especially knowing the kind of person that you are Cliff and the high esteem that you have for your son- and now for his memory. All that I keep on hoping is that you can find that very deserving place in your spiritual self where you can only celebrate Derek’s living years and contribution to your life. I have no doubt that this is Derek’s wish for his Dad.

I only have one memory of him and that is at your wedding to my sister Nancy. Derek was not the type to get up and boogie- supposedly. But this night at much to mine and my girlfriend Jodi’s relentless egging him on,,,, Derek went on to be the dancefloor shining star- a wild and funky celebration of your and Nancy’s union. I like to think that his dance was a shining example of human expression, release and abandon to life’s rhythm and rhyme.

Thinking of you and Nancy and your entire extended family. Much love Keith and Jodi, in Port Hardy BC.

Derek, you amazed me with all of your statistics! You memorized so many different sports that it seemed like you had more information than most computers! Your Uncle Rich got upset with you for getting lost at Disneyland. You came back and said, “Hey, I was ok. You just didn’t know it.” You were in a hurry, things to do and money to spend. As a teenager you were always polite and kind. You made me laugh! You had a great sense of humor. When you met Sarah you were such a gentleman. I was proud of you. You were such a happy Daddy! You left a beautiful daughter for Grandma Karen to hold and to love.I will miss you Derek I love you.
