Obituary

The sun rose brightly in Walthill, Nebraska when Derald Chester Johnson was born on September 17, 1925. The sun set with vivid colors on August 11, 2004 in Laguna Niguel, California when Derald C. Johnson died of complications of a stroke and Alzheimer’s Disease. He leaves his wife of 38 years, Melinda Johnson; his children ? Diana Guest, San Diego, CA; Stephen P. Johnson, Petaluma, CA; Cheryl Johnson, Raleigh, NC; Charles A. Johnson, Port St. John, FL; Irene Busbey, Charlotte, NC; his sisters ? Anita Beckner, Lyons, NE; Georgia Kauch, South Sioux City, NE; and his beautiful and beloved 11 grandchildren. May God grant his grace to this truly magnificent husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. A memorial service will be held in Greensboro, NC on September 25, 2004 at First Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to UCSD Alzheimer’s Research Center, 9500 Gilman Drive, La Jolla, CA 92093-0948 in memory of Derald Johnson.

  1. Although we met only briefly in Greensboro, then a few more times, we remember Derald well for his laughter, and his love for Melinda.

  4. I fondly remember the time I spent with you in N. Car. over a weekend when I was going to a school at Ft Lee, VA early in my gov career. I enjoyed getting to know Derald, and I am deeply sorry for your loss. My wife Cathy and I will pray for his soul. May God Bless you and yours, and bring you peace in this time of sadness. Remember, you have friends and relatives who love you and we wish for you only good memories, good health and good spirits.
    I will try to stay in touch and hope that your time of sorrow will be tempered by the prayers of all of us who care.
