Obituary

David James Frakes, 59, born September 13, 1953 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Walter and Dorothy Frakes, went home August 4th, 2013. He passed away doing one of his most favorite pastimes…looking for golf balls at one of his favorite golf courses, San Juan Hills.

David spent his first fifteen years of his life living in Minnetonka, Minnesota. He unfortunately lost his mother when he was at the young age of only seven. His father and he spent many years of good times together on Lake Minnetonka. David loved to play ice hockey in the winter time and golf and baseball on the warmer days. He has MANY treasured memories of ALL of his family and each and every time they got together they spent hours upon hours reliving all of their wonderful memories and special times together. David’s father remarried some years later and at the age of fifteen David and his parents drove across the States to California and made their new home to be Santa Ana, California.

David completed high school in Santa Ana and shortly thereafter married his high school sweetheart, Sandy. In 1980, they were blessed with their son Christopher James.

Ultimately they divorced and in 1986 David and Charyl were married and David gained not only a loving wife but a warm loving family to go right along with her. Spending seven years together as “just the two” when not with family, they finally decided it was time to grow their family. In 1994, they were blessed with Marissa-Christina Ann who became their world. David was a true family man and was always surrounded by his family doing things like golf, bowling, trips, continual special occasions and most importantly, spending quality time each and every Sunday evening at Charyl’s parent’s house for Sunday family dinner…always asking “mom” to make meatloaf for dinner – especially on his birthday.

With struggling times over the past few years in the Automotive industry, David’s time “out in the field selling auto parts” was becoming more and more slim and began to work and help out at one of his best friend’s automotive shops (L & M Automotive). He would spend hours there and treated it as if it were his own business and was ever so thrilled and honored when Charlie (the owner) would ask him to “keep an eye on his business” when he needed to take time off.

David loved to play golf, bowl, attend any car races, walk around at the Swap Meet, shop at Costco, “tinker around” in his garage, watch golf, football and baseball and “Duck Dynasty” of late and probably most importantly, meet people and spend time with his family. He truly devoted his life to his family and friends.

David is survived by his wife Charyl, his son Chris, his daughter Marissa-Christina, his brother Bob and sister-in-law Anne, sister-in-law Stephanie, his granddaughter Sierra, his father-in- law Roger, his mother-in-law Margie, his brother-in-law Mike, his sister-in-law Heidi, many loving nephews, nieces, cousins along with his two faithful, loving dogs DJ and Coco Puff. He also leaves numerous extended family members and friends who he held ALL so very dear and just continued to touch countless lives each and every day….once David met you, no matter where he was, you are a “friend for life” to him.

David, although we are having to say goodbye, this is not where it ends because we will carry you with us ’til we see you again….

His family would be honored and thrilled if you share a special personal memory in his life on the “tribute wall” and in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Frakes Family Memorial Fund.
