David Nelson Jacobson passed away on May 9, 2026, in Mission Viejo, California, at the age of 82.
Born on July 9, 1943, in Milford, Massachusetts, David grew up in a large and loving family before proudly serving in the U.S. Navy. During his service in Vietnam, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Known to friends and family as “Jake,” David was loved for his infectious smile, quick wit, and remarkable sense of humor. A devoted New England sports fan, he especially enjoyed cheering on the Boston Red Sox whenever he could. He also loved playing card games, building model cars, and spending time with those he cared about most.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Madalena “Madi” Jacobson; his brother, Martin; his sons, David Jr. and Christopher, and their wives, K.C. and Shauna; and his four cherished grandchildren, Robert, Katelyn, Lilliah, and Jack. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings John, Elizabeth, Paul, and James.
“Poppa Jake” treasured every moment with his family and especially lit up whenever he saw his grandchildren. His warmth, humor, and love for family will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Services will be at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 23850 Los Alisos Blvd, Mission Viejo, followed by interment at Riverside National Cemetery 22995 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside CA at 12:45 p.m.
